Workshop Description

Moving Stories® is an integrated play therapy approach developed by Dr. Sue Carroll Duffy that  integrates play, story and sandtray to safely and creatively teach and heal. In play therapy, the approach can be used from a range of theoretical perspectives, and with clients across the lifespan. Given the safety of metaphors in story, play and symbols, Moving Stories is particularly helpful for trauma work and can be tailored to a wide range of therapeutic challenges. This  integrated expressive therapy provides a safe and fun way to deeply listen and connect with clients of all ages.

The workshop is designed for mental health clinicians who have completed an introductory Moving Stories workshop. This intermediate workshop focuses on the Storytelling Phase of the Moving Stories play therapy method which includes assessing the client or group need (culture, developmental stage, phase of therapy), planning the Moving Stories journey (selecting the story, theoretical model and pieces), and telling the story in the sandtray.

Following the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Assess the needs for the client in play therapy (culture, phase of therapy, setting, developmental age).
  2. Select a story based upon the client’s play therapy needs.
  3. Develop a plan for each of the 9 steps in the Moving Stories play therapy method.
  4. Develop a Moving Stories play therapy journey agreement.
  5. Develop a Moving Stories play therapy ritual for beginning and ending the storytelling.
  6. Tell Moving Stories with moment to moment play therapy attunement.
